What We Do
Come along on an adventure with Free Men of the Sea! We provide a variety of activities to accommodate all ages. We strive to enlighten, intrigue, and entertain on land or at sea!
Historical Reenactment
We present historical interpretations of pirates and privateers from the Golden Age of Piracy (1690-1730) through the War of 1812. We adapt personas that are appropriate for the time period, including clothing, weaponry, and equipment.
Activities
Every year our crew participates in festivals and parades throughout New England. You’ll find us entertaining and educating crowds of all ages, singing sea shanties and telling the occasional corny joke!
Demonstrations & Discussions
Among our crew we have experts on the daily life of pirates, period military protocol, black power pistols, cannons, edged weapons, period medical procedures, navigational equipment, sailors knots, and more!
Consultation Services
Our Captain and other select members of the crew have consulted on films and television shows, as well as provided period artifacts to exhibitions and museums. We also present seminars and contribute to articles and books about pirates and privateers.
“Thanks and compliments for your participation in our special living history demonstration. I look forward to further historical reenactments that highlight the rich and diverse story that is the history of Providence and Rhode Island.”
